The Man Who Sold the Fantastic Planet

I can’t help but imagine the entirety of David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold the World (1970) animated like the animated movie Fantastic Planet (1973), or as its soundtrack. I’d even go so far to say that the album is David Bowie’s most space rock-y album.

For me, both the movie and the album create an atmosphere of barren planets and empty space; there’s a feeling of urgency and panic, and of a reality shifted away from our normal perspective. Both are, in a word, alien.
